Excelsior Cottage - ActivitiesIf you're keen to do more than simply chill out and enjoy the peace and quiet of the country, there is plenty to occupy you on our working dairy farm.
Chief attraction for many is the excellent trout fishing. Guests have at their disposal two large, well-stocked trout dams (used for fishing competitions). When the cottage is occupied the dams are reserved exclusively for guests and fishing is on a "catch and release" basis. The rod fee is R100 a day.

Wattled Crane We are very proud of the huge variety of birds in the area, including Crowned Cranes, Wattled Cranes, and various raptors that can be spotted on the farm.
Walks & Hikes
The scenery is breathtaking and we'll be happy to advise you of scenic routes to follow and interesting places to see.
Along with an abundance of nocturnal game, wildlife found on the farm includes oribi, eland, duiker, bushbuck, reedbuck, Vaal reedbuck, mountain reedbuck, lynx, serval, jackal, bush pig, porcupine, baboons, and samango monkeys.
No, there isn't a course on the farm, but in nearby Nottingham Road you can put your golfing skills to the test at Gowrie Farm Golf Estate or a little further away at Bosch Hoek Golf & Country Estate.
Midlands Meander - Arts, Crafts, Spas
Nottingham Road features prominently on the Midlands Meander arts and craft route. In addition to a variety of fascinating craft shops offering original
work, there are three spas in the area:
Indigo Fields Country House & Spa
Fordoun Hotel & Spa
Brookdale Health Hydro
The Midlands Meander website is well worth exploring - you can search by location or category to find offerings of interest.
